The story of Gateway Church finds its birth in the description of the early church in
Acts 2:42-47. In the fall of 2002, a small band of believers met for the purpose of chewing on various passages of scripture in Acts and formulating practical steps to take in answer to God’s divine prompting to plant a church.
What we learned first and foremost was to walk in step with God, not walk behind Him in hesitation or in front of Him with our own plans, but walk with Him in humble confidence. And still to this day, our greatest strength as a church is our willingness to walk in unison with God.
In May 2003, God showed favor on Gateway Church and we held our first worship gathering for the public in a local school gym and that’s where we still meet today.
Both individually and corporately, God has led us on an amazing journey of transformation. We are becoming a community of redemption. We proclaim that Christ is our Lord and the author of hope and forgiveness for all people. And we proclaim that He is not done working in us.
We are becoming a community of believers who seek to know all the attributes of God and to declare all the activities of God. We do not want to miss anything God desires to reveal to us.
We are becoming a community of all generations, where we all welcome the opportunity to value each other and to learn from each other.
We are becoming a community of mercy and generosity. We love to act on the promptings of the Holy Spirit to give care to people here and around the world. We strive to have no needy persons among us.
We are becoming a community of believers who enjoy life together. We laugh and mourn together. We study scripture together. We work and play together. We eat fried foods together. We drink sweet tea together.
